When I arrived at mother Teresa's house to begin my volunteer job, I had to make a registration. All new volunteers of the day would gather in a room and wait that a sister called them one by one. They made me sit on a chair and Mieko on the one next to mine. We talked together, but did not recognize. It's only two days later that we figured out that we had met in south America ! The world is so small...
I am volunteering in a mother Teresa's center here in Kolkata. I am in Kalighat, which is the very first place were she began to work. Some people are in very bad condition there, even though volunteers who come there since a few years (some of them knew mother Teresa) say that during the last years, the conditions in which the patients arrive have globally spectacularly improved. Which is by the way good news concerning the whole society. But still there was that guy. Today, he was staring at me, like calling me. I had never seen so much of tension in the eyes of a human being. Or only in horror movies when the guy is going to be cut in two. There was no verbal communication possible with him, so I started puting my hands on him, like reiki healers do. He was groaning of pain at each breathe. I wanted to let him know that he was not alone, at least for that time. So I got closer and closer and I was finally hugging him. I was in the state of mind of the Metta meditation, which puropose is to send happiness to everyone. He began more quiet after some time and stopped groaning. When this was over I was really shaken up. The whole experience has been very strong. I was already feeling the following mathematical result while practicing Metta, but this time it was more obvious to me than ever : if you give 10 (in terms of personnal energy) to the mankind, you get 20 from the universe (or God or whatever). I am so thankful to Goenka Ji and all the lineage of masters from Burma before him to have made me understand this. Don't keep your personnal energy for yourself ! Give it to everyone ! The universe will give you twice more, and not after the end of your life or in your next life, but right now !
