Sarnath - other buddhist temples
Sarnath - main site
This is an edict of Asoka written in old Brahmin Mauryan script in which he warns the monks and nuns against creating schism in the sangha. Unfortunately that's what finally happened.
There are also lots of ruins of monasteries and temples.
Huge stupa on the place where the buddha gave his first teaching to his five friends he had left when he ate Sujata's rice pudding.
Decorations on the stupa

This is a room in a monastery

A monastery
The squares on the bottom were monasteries. The ones on the top were temples.
Rajgir - Japanese stupa
Another Japanese stupa, built by the same people as in Pokhara and Lumbini.

Rajgir - the buddha's place
As often, it is both a Jain and Buddhist pilgrim place.
Here is the place where the buddha used to teach.

Just a few steps down here is the place where it is said that Angulimal lived. This guy had made the vow to kill 1000 humans. He was keeping one finger of each in a garland around his neck. Out of compassion, the buddha taught him and he finally became an arhant, which means he also became a buddha.
Nowadays there are only a few Indian and French jerks in there.
Bodhgaya - Mahabodhi temple
Here's again a heavy load of pictures from the temple.
The bodhi tree.
The golden throne placed here by Asoka in 343 BC. It is supposed to be the exact place where the buddha was sitting.
People meditating under the Bodhi tree. Not only physically on the buddha's footsetps, but more importantly spiritually also.
